Overview

Wembury sits within National Trust land in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering a sandy beach with spectacular views across to the Great Mewstone island. The beach is perfect for families with its gently shelving sand, excellent rock pools, and generally calm conditions. Facilities include toilets, the Old Mill Café, and the Wembury Marine Conservation Centre offering guided rock pool walks and educational activities.

Dogs are banned from the main beach between May and September, but are welcome from October to April when the beach transforms into an excellent dog walking destination. The adjacent Langdon Beach, accessible via the coast path, allows dogs year-round and provides a wilder, more rocky alternative for adventurous dog owners.

Access from Plymouth involves crossing the Laira Bridge and following signs through Plymstock, with the final approach through Wembury village. Parking is limited and expensive at the National Trust car park, which fills by mid-morning in summer. The church car park provides an alternative when services aren't running. The Great Mewstone provides a dramatic backdrop and is now a bird sanctuary, while the surrounding cliffs offer excellent coastal walking opportunities along the South West Coast Path.
