Watcombe Beach

Watcombe is a quiet, woodland-fringed sandy cove north of Torquay, accessed by a winding lane and footpath, with no car park at the beach. There are no on-site toilets or cafés. The sand shelves steeply in some places, and cliffs often shelter it from strong winds. Dogs are allowed year-round. The location's wildness is part of its charm, but also means slips and muddiness after rain. The secluded nature makes it a favourite for local dog walkers and picnics, especially in low season.

The approach involves a walk through ancient woodland from Watcombe Beach Road, where parking is extremely limited along the narrow lane. The beach sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has remained largely undeveloped due to its remote access. The woodland contains mature trees and provides habitat for various wildlife species. The South West Coast Path passes nearby, connecting to the wider network of coastal walks.
