Maidencombe Beach

Maidencombe is a rural cove north of Torquay, backing onto red sandstone cliffs and rolling farmland. The sandy shore is revealed at low tide, while rock pools line the edge. A steep path leads down from a small car park and seasonal café. Dogs are welcome all year on the far left side, though summer restrictions apply right in front of the main access. There are no lifeguards. At low tide the walking is excellent, but the steep access and lack of facilities may not suit all beachgoers.

The beach sits in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by farmland that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Access is via the narrow Maidencombe Road, with very limited parking that fills quickly in summer. The red sandstone cliffs are part of the Permian geology characteristic of this coastline. The beach connects to the South West Coast Path, providing access to excellent coastal walks in both directions.
