Overview

Goodrington Sands (also known as Goodrington Beach) is divided into two distinct sections with different dog access rules:

North Sands (Northern Section): Dogs are welcome year-round on this quieter part of the beach, making it excellent for dog play and exercise. This section is generally less crowded and ideal for dog owners seeking a more peaceful beach experience.

South Sands (Southern Section): Dogs are banned from 1st May to 30th September during peak season. However, outside these dates, dogs are welcome. This section offers all the classic seaside facilities including proximity to Quay West Waterpark, family amusements, cafés, rental beach huts, and toilets.

The beach features gently shelving water that is usually safe for paddling, though jellyfish sometimes drift in during late summer. The grassy parkland behind provides additional space for dogs during busy periods. Excellent transport links are available via Goodrington railway halt on the heritage Dartmouth Steam Railway. Extensive car parking is available but fills quickly during peak season.

The area was developed as the railway expanded tourism in the late 19th century, and the parkland connects to local walking routes, making this a major family destination with facilities for both dogs and their owners.
