Wonwell Beach

Wonwell sits on the western side of the Erme estuary, connecting with Mothecombe at low tide to create an extensive sandy playground. Dogs are welcome year-round, making this extremely popular with dog owners who appreciate the space and natural setting. The connection to Mothecombe at low tide doubles the available exercise area, while the quieter western location means fewer crowds.

Access requires navigating narrow Devon lanes through Kingston village, with limited roadside parking that fills quickly on popular days. The lack of formal facilities means visitors must be self-sufficient, but the reward is an authentic, undeveloped coastal experience. The estuary location provides interesting tidal flows and excellent opportunities for wildlife observation.
