Overview

This secluded cove is accessed by foot along woodland trails from Fishcombe or Broadsands, rewarding the effort with tranquility and a mix of pebble and sand. There is no parking or facilities nearby. Dogs are allowed all year. The walk in deters large crowds, making this a favourite with locals seeking a natural, quiet walk or swim with their dogs. Tides can encroach on the beach, so visit at or around low tide for space.

The woodland approach passes through ancient coastal forest, part of the South West Coast Path network. The cove's name derives from nearby Churston, historically connected to the railway development that transformed this coastline in the Victorian era. The isolation has preserved the natural character, with wildlife including various seabirds and occasional seal sightings. The mixed shingle and sand provide interesting textures and good drainage after rain.
