Budleigh Salterton Beach

Budleigh Salterton offers two miles of distinctive pebble beach that marks the western start of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The large, rounded pebbles create an instantly recognizable landscape backed by dramatic red Triassic cliffs dating back 240 million years. The beach provides safe family bathing with generally calm conditions, though the western end requires caution due to occasional cliff falls.

Dogs enjoy year-round access at both ends of the beach, from the Lime Kiln car park eastward to the River Otter mouth, and westward from the end of the promenade. The main central section has restrictions from May to September. The River Otter estuary provides additional walking opportunities and connects to the Pebblebed Heaths nature reserve.

The large Lime Kiln car park accommodates 300 vehicles but fills early on sunny days. The level promenade provides excellent accessibility, with three beach cafés, public toilets, and dog-friendly facilities including water refill points. The town maintains an unspoilt Victorian character with independent shops and restaurants. The beach's location provides excellent sunset views and connects to both the South West Coast Path and inland walking routes through the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
