Blackpool Sands is a sheltered, crescent-shaped bay known for its pebbly shore—don't let the name fool you. The shingle and coarse sand mix is backed by pines, offering a Mediterranean feel. Facilities here are well developed, with a cafe, clean loos, and watersports hire, but the beach is privately managed and charges for parking, which deters some locals.
Dogs are not permitted on the beach between March and October, making it less ideal for those accompanied by four-legged friends during most of the year. Out of season, the beach becomes a tranquil dog-walking spot. The shingle can be tough on sensitive paws, so shoes (for people and perhaps dogs) are advisable. The sheltered bay means safe swimming, but strong waves can occasionally arrive, so caution is needed.
Private car park with 150 spaces. £4/day (peak season), £2/day (off-season). Includes toilet facilities and beach equipment rental. Card payments only. Easy access from car park. Level approach to beach.
Sheltered location makes it safer for swimming. Lifeguarded in summer.
