South Milton Sands

Dog-Friendly Beach in South Devon

South Milton Sands, also known as Thurlestone Sands, provides one of South Devon's most scenic beaches with the iconic Thurlestone Rock arch sitting offshore. This National Trust-managed beach offers a long stretch of golden sand backed by designated wetlands that form a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The combination of excellent facilities and wild setting makes it special. Dogs are welcome year-round, making this extremely popular with dog owners who appreciate the space and spectacular setting. The neighbouring wetlands provide excellent birdwatching opportunities, while the beach itself offers safe swimming and excellent rock pooling. The Beachhouse café provides excellent refreshments and always has water bowls available for visiting dogs. Access is via the A379 to Thurlestone, then following signs to the beach. The National Trust car park charges £5 all day (£3 after 4pm) with free access for members. The location between Salcombe and Dartmouth makes it easily accessible from both directions. The beach provides spectacular sunset views and connects to excellent coastal walking along the South West Coast Path. Lifeguards provide cover in summer, while the Marine Conservation Society award recognises the excellent water quality.
