Mill Bay

Dog-Friendly Beach in South Devon

Mill Bay is a small, sheltered sandy cove on the eastern shore of the Salcombe estuary, accessible below East Portlemouth village. At low tide, the beach extends northward to connect with East Portlemouth beach, creating a longer stretch for exploration. The bay provides excellent protection from prevailing winds and offers safe, shallow water perfect for families and water sports enthusiasts. Dogs are welcome all year, making this one of the most consistently dog-friendly beaches in the area. The sheltered aspect and connection to wider beaches at low tide provide excellent exercise opportunities. The proximity to the Salcombe ferry system makes it accessible via water transport as well as road, adding to its appeal for dog owners seeking variety. Road access requires navigating narrow Devon lanes from Kingsbridge through Frogmore, following signs to East Portlemouth. Some sections of this route are impassable at high tide, requiring careful timing. The small car park sits directly behind the beach with level access. Basic facilities are available at nearby East Portlemouth village, including a café and shop. The location within the Salcombe harbour system provides excellent opportunities for combining beach visits with ferry trips and estuary exploration.
