Menabilly Beach

Dog-Friendly Beach in

Menabilly Beach—locally known as Polridmouth Cove—is a secluded, sandy haven on the south Cornwall coast, often mistakenly mentioned as being in Devon due to its proximity to the border. Nestled between wooded headlands and overlooking St Austell Bay, it offers a tranquil atmosphere with a unique blend of pebbles, sand, and rocky features that give the beach a natural charm. Access is via a scenic ten-minute walk from the car park at Menabilly Barton farm, passing through tree-lined paths and fields that set the tone for a peaceful outing. The beach is famed for its literary heritage, inspiring Daphne du Maurier’s “Manderley” in her novel Rebecca, as she lived on the Menabilly estate for over two decades. Visitors can explore two small coves separated by a rocky outcrop, enjoy sheltered swimming, and indulge in excellent rock pooling at low tide. Dog owners will appreciate its all-year dog-friendly policy, and children can safely play on its gently sloping sands, though there are no nearby amenities or toilets
