Dawlish Warren stretches for 1.5 miles of fine golden sand, backed by protected dunes that form part of an internationally important nature reserve. The beach consistently earns Blue Flag status for its excellent water quality and facilities, with RNLI lifeguards providing summer safety cover. The combination of resort amenities and wild nature makes it unique, with over 600 species of flowering plants in the surrounding dunes. Dog arrangements are complex but generous for those who understand them. Dogs are welcome year-round between groynes 3 and 9, providing excellent exercise space. They're also allowed on the tidal beach section to the right of the lifeguard tower throughout the year. The adjacent Dawlish Countryside Park offers 65 acres of off-lead exercise when beach restrictions apply. Access is excellent via the A379 with multiple large car parks, though these fill quickly in summer. The railway station provides car-free access from Exeter and beyond. Facilities include amusements, arcades, cafés, and boat trips, while the nature reserve visitor centre offers educational opportunities. The Exe Estuary location provides excellent birdwatching, particularly during migration periods when thousands of wildfowl use the mudflats.
