Babbacombe Beach

Dog-Friendly Beach in Torbay

Unlike Oddicombe, Babbacombe is mostly shingle and pebble, but offers calm, sheltered swimming and stunning coastal views. Dogs are allowed all year, making it a top pick for dog owners. Facilities are basic: a beach café and limited parking near the water. The path down is steep, but the pebble stretch is rarely crowded. The northern orientation gives less evening sun, and there's no lifeguard. Popular with anglers and kayakers, it remains a relaxed place for walks and quiet swims. The steep access road leads from Babbacombe village, which developed as a fashionable Victorian resort area. The sheltered nature of the cove provides excellent conditions for water sports and fishing, with the deeper water allowing small boats to launch easily. The surrounding cliffs are part of the important geological heritage of the English Riviera Geopark, showcasing millions of years of coastal formation.
